Every medical system is born of a particular time, place and culture. This lecture series examines the influence of culture on renowned traditional medical systems, such as Chinese medicine, and how they differ from modern-day biomedicine.
The core elements of any medical system are diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of ill health. These core elements do not change, but the medical systems which give them expression may evolve, mutate, and even die. This course follows the path and fate of Irish indigenous medicine throughout the years from the legendary god of medicine, to the emergence of Christianity to the present day.
